Why summer matters:

Summer programs provide structure to young people's summer experiences, providing them with opportunities to build strong relationships, make new friends, build and keep fresh academic skills, engage in new experiences, and fun ways to stay active.

What is the MSN and ESON?

The Elementary School Out-of-School Time Network (ESON) is coordinated by the Cambridge Agenda for Children Out-of-School Time (OST), a citywide intermediary working with Cambridge Public Schools as well as many other city-run and community-based programs serving young people beyond the school day and year. The Agenda for Children OST’s mission is to increase equity, access and innovation and sustain the highest quality OST opportunities and experiences for all children, youth and families. For more on the Agenda for Children’s projects and initiatives visit www. agendaforchildrenost.org.

How to use this guide:

  • Our goal is to provide one place to find all the information you need to make summer plans
  • This guide includes all of the major programs for this age group in Cambridge: those run by nonprofits, by City agencies, by local universities and businesses
  • The Planning Tool (the grid on the first few pages) will provide less detail but a quick overview of what programs will meet your needs.
  • Each program has key details listed, with links to the program applications and websites
  • If you would like someone to talk through your options, please let us know - we can help sort through the information you see here and choose what works for you and your family.

Who can I contact to help me talk through options?

If you would like someone to talk through your options, please let us know. We can help sort through the information you see here and choose which options may work for you and your family. We can also mail a paper copy of this Resource Guide to your home address. If you need interpretation or problem-solving in your native language, please contact us!

In this 3 week program, young singer-actors will have a chance to design, write, and perform their own musical theater production. Students will learn the basics of staging, script writing, dancing, acting, and singing while incorporating team building and creativity. Songs from musical theater and pop repertoire will help participants hone their ear training, musical literacy, and vocal production skills, all with improvisation games and movement activities.
