Bonsall High School Update
January 3rd, 2023
Welcome Back!
A Message from Dr. Fowler
Bonsall High School Families,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a relaxing and positive winter break. A new year brings with it new possibilities, and I have decided to resign as principal of Bonsall High School to pursue a position closer to home. I am very appreciative of my time at Bonsall. I have been honored to serve a great community full of supportive families and some of the best and friendliest students anywhere. I can honestly say that my time here has been full of unique opportunities. During my tenure the school has grown immensely. We have built deep relationships, and we have learned alongside each other as students, staff, parents, and community partners. We have created a culture of academic rigor and genuine care that is the envy of other schools. The professional staff of Bonsall High School are among the most talented and dedicated educators alive today, and I can say with full conviction that BHS will continue to offer the same world class academics and personal attention to the needs of all students that the school has come to be known for long after I am gone. I am confident that with our new CTE and Early College Program with Palomar College, our exceptional arts programs, our comprehensive sports and academic competitions, and the family-centered atmosphere we have all come to expect, Bonsall High School will continue to be the preeminent destination in the North County for students and parents demanding educational excellence. We have together grown a strong community that has come together over hardships and has celebrated much. I am moving on, but the shared Bonsall High School mission and vision continues to be strong. BHS is stronger than it has ever been in its history and continues to grow because of your active support.
It has been a pleasure and a real honor to serve as Bonsall High School principal these last 5 years and the decision to leave is not easy but I know that I leave you in good and capable hands! Long Live the Legion!
With warmest gratitude and appreciation,
Jason V. Fowler, Ed. D.
LEADERSHIP UPDATE
On Tuesday, January 3rd, the Bonsall Unified School District accepted Dr. Jason Fowler’s resignation as Principal of Bonsall High School. Dr. Fowler has served at the site for nearly five years and the District is appreciative of his service and commitment to students, staff, and the community. His efforts supported us in creating a successful and growing Early College High School program for Bonsall High School students, and we are eager to continue this important work. We wish Dr. Fowler the very best in his future endeavors. We are grateful for the Bonsall High School Staff and have confidence the site will continue to provide high quality instruction and support for all students.
Amy Johnson, Coordinator of Secondary Education, and John Norton, Assistant Principal on Special Assignment will continue to provide the site with administrative leadership. The District’s Executive Cabinet, having extensive high school experience, will lend ongoing support to BHS, as well. Mr. Clevenger, Mr. Williams, Mrs. Golly and Ms. Dully will be on campus throughout the coming weeks.
The District will name an interim principal in the near future, and the high school principal position will be publicly posted at the optimal time for recruitment. The search for the new principal will be comprehensive and collaborative. The schoolwide community will have the opportunity to provide input on what qualities and skills are desirable in a high school principal, and the interview panel will be composed of certificated and classified staff, students, and parent representatives.

- complete all A-G coursework required by CSU admission policies
- meet minimum CSU eligibility index requirements
- have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 upon graduation
- participate in and successfully pass the Early Assessment Program in their junior year in mathematics and English, or successfully complete additional coursework designed to build the appropriate skills and knowledge

We are so excited to enter into this agreement that will help us increase the number and percentage of our graduates qualifying for admission to CSUSM.
Bonsall Unified School District Is Awarded $250,000 to Grow CTE Programs
Bonsall Unified School District applied for and was awarded K12 SWP grant funds to support our Career Technical Education programs in BUSD. Bonsall High School currently offers two CTE pathways: Software and Systems Development and Design, Visual and Media Arts. Another pathway, Advanced Manufacturing, is in development, and with K12 Strong Workforce Program (K12 SWP) funds, BUSD will develop a new Agriscience pathway. Our application entitled "Growing CTE at Bonsall" has been awarded approximately $250,000 to support these efforts.
Bonsall High School has an established relationship with Palomar College, which currently offers college courses to Bonsall students at the high school. BUSD will use K12 SWP funds to strengthen connections to industry and regional colleges and universities, credentialed CTE teacher-led courses, and increased support from new and planned staff to facilitate work-based learning opportunities and course articulation with local colleges that will help BUSD students become competitive with occupations that span a variety of industries, including Agriculture and Natural Resources, AME, and ICT. We are eager to increase these wonderful opportunities for BUSD students.
