Lusk (here in red celebrating with her family). Lusk began teaching in Seaside in 1969. In the 1970s, while earning her master’s degree, she designed and facilitated a transitional counseling program for sixth grade students entering junior high. Lusk went onto Seaside High in the 1980s as a counselor, dean of students and assistant principal. In 1992, she was appointed as the first woman and first African American principal at the school. Shortly after retiring in 2004 she was elected to the district’s Board of Trustees.
