The Tiger Times
The Monthly Franklin Family Newsletter - January 2022
Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed the two holiday weeks with your Franklin Tigers!
This week has certainly been yet another extremely challenging chapter in the Covid Pandemic. We are so grateful to all of you who have been committed to testing your children, keeping them home when sick, and remaining cautious about Covid safety when not at school.
As we see this Omicron variant period through, please continue to be extra vigilant and test your children as often as possible. And if you haven't already gotten them vaccinated, now is the time! Please reach out to the Franklin office for vaccination info if you need support.
And, if you haven't already signed the consent form for on-site testing at Franklin, please contact your child's teacher or Franklin@ousd.org for the forms.

A note from Ms. Sufrin:
January 10th will be my last day working at Franklin this year, as I begin my Maternity Leave and prepare for the arrival of my baby! I will miss every Franklin Tiger and working with all of you so much!
In my place, please welcome Ms. Aquino. Ms. Aquino was a former administer at Lincoln Elementary, and she has been supporting schools since. She will be at Franklin on Mondays, starting January 10th, until we find a more permanent replacement to fill my Assistant Principal role during my Maternity Leave.

We are thrilled to share that our Read-a-Thon was an exciting success. Participating students read for a total of 74,136 minutes (1,235 HOURS) and we raised $3,363 to buy books for the Franklin library! Thank you to all of you who encouraged your young readers and donated so generously.
Mr. Silver's 4th grade class won the reading minutes competition with 12,266 minutes read! They'll be having a pizza party next week to celebrate. :)
We hope that the start to 2022 will bring great things for everyone in the Franklin community.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns (Franklin@ousd.org)!
Our best,
Ms. Lai & Ms. Sufrin

Meet Brooklyn Robinson, Franklin's New Food Council Student Rep!
Some words from Brooklyn:
I really want to do this because I like going to school! And I like fruit and vegetables, and I just want to make the whole school eat healthy. I'm going to be making posters for the cafeteria and speaking out at assemblies.
I haven't been a healthy eater my whole life, so I just want to see everybody eat healthy so they don't have to go to the dentist or the doctor.
It feels amazing to have this job because I never experienced something that is so fun to do, has art in it, and I didn't expect that I would make it this far!
When I grow up I want to be a dancer and a coach!
Did you know Franklin has an after-school Garden Club?
Students get to help take care of the garden and learn many new skills for tending the earth, growing plants, and harvesting new fruits!
Please reach out to the Franklin office (Franklin@ousd.org) if you are interested in your child becoming a Garden Guardian!
Science Learning is ALIVE at Franklin!

Please come by and take a look - Lost & Found is located just inside the red gate.
AND: please put your child's name on items to prevent lost items in the future!
