Gunn Counseling
Some balancing may be taking place over the winter break including period and teacher changes. Students should be checking their Semester 2 schedule on Monday, January 9 for any changes that may have occurred. Every effort will be made to preserve a student's schedule and teachers.
Any requests for schedule changes are highly recommended to be submitted before the end of the semester. (See below).
For Schedule Change Requests at the semester please use the following link, which will generate an email to your counselor, teacher, and the department Instructional Lead for approval.

We are looking forward to starting the individualized academic planning so that students are prepared to think about their 2023-2024 course selection in February.
10th Grade 4-year planning updates are underway during Study Hall Sessions. Counselors will be assisting in outreach to students who are struggling academically through check-ins and an academic plan.
Tutorial options are available in the Academic Center
After-school drop-in tutoring Clinics - no appointment necessary. Monday - Thursday
All subjects up to the AP level.
Ms. Collart is available to tutor students before school and up through noon, in Math. Students can utilize their preps to attend.
Ms. Steward (Afternoons) Students can drop in for tutoring on a specific subject, or unit, at any point.

Students with Palo Alto Public Library Card can access through Id Portal

Counseling Dept. Hours:
The counseling department will be open from 8:30 - 4:30 Monday - Thursday and 8:30 - 4 on Friday. Walk-In hours are before and after school, brunch, and lunch. Counselors are also available by email to schedule appointments.
Look for an email from your student's school counselor introducing themselves and providing more detail about their specific schedule.
For meetings that will take more than 5 minutes, students should reach out to their counselor via email to make an appointment.

SELF (Social Emotional Literacy and Functionality)
SELF/Study Hall
9th grade students will reflect on the past year, share out with classmates about their break to build connections, and revisit community agreements set in the first semester to ground their conversations this term.
10th-grade students will bridge the connections between our fall unit on building relationships and our spring unit, an introduction to equity. The 10th-grade students will be working through a lesson about peer relationships at Gunn, and the campus-specific factors that play a role in those relationships.
11th & 12th will have the Junior Assembly in Spangenberg and Alumni Panel for Seniors in Bow Gym during Study Hall.

College and Career
Upcoming events in January:
Middle College and College Now will be holding an information session in the C&CC on Wednesday, Jan 11 during PRIME for 10th & 11th Grade Students. Sign up through FlexiSched.
AFS will be presenting their Study Abroad opportunities on 1/18 during PRIME.
College and Career is hosting a Finacial Aid Night on January 25th in Library 6:30 -8pm
The College & Career Center is located in room P-233 and is open Monday-Friday during the academic day. Students are welcome to stop by anytime to access resources!

Fall 2023 Extended Deadlines
Some CSU campuses have extended their Cal State application deadlines for freshman applicants. Deadline extensions may range from end of December to the beginning of February. Please encourage students to visit our Application Dates & Deadlines page for more information on which campuses are still open and their deadlines.
EOP deadlines
Students who expressed interest and the intention to apply to the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) on Cal State Apply for fall 2023 should check individual campus EOP application and documents deadlines on the EOP Admission by Term website. Document deadlines include letter of recommendations. Students can still go back into Cal State Apply to indicate they are interested in applying for EOP if they haven’t missed the campus deadline.

Happy New Year! Wellness will be open this week beginning Tuesday from 9 am to 4:30 PM. A big thank you to all who have donated snacks and supplies for the Wellness Center.

Gunn Foundation
The Gunn Foundation is an all-volunteer nonprofit that provides need-based scholarships to college-bound seniors in the Gunn community. Scholarships fund essential expenses --- housing deposits, books, enrollment fees --- often unmet by aid packages.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic, creative, and hardworking candidates to join our dedicated team of volunteer board members.
