A Message from Mrs. Ostrander
Cultural Connections Week - March 4th to March 8th
We are excited to share that Coolidge School will be celebrating our community’s rich culture and diversity from March 4 to March 8th during a Cultural Connections Week! Our school continues to become more diverse and with that comes a wealth of family traditions and cultural practices. Culture is something typically a shared tradition in a shared community. It is something that may have started in a different country, or right here in the United States. We hope that you will be willing to come to school to share a piece of your cultural heritage with our class. This will be a time to learn about all the different cultural backgrounds we have in our community and foster cultural awareness, inclusion, and acceptance.
During Cultural Connections Week we will have the Celebration of Us as a culminating event to share in a potluck meal, family traditions, and student performances. See the flyer below for more details and to RSVP!
COOLIDGE COMMUNITY PHOTOS
A few photos from Kindness Week! Students below are engaging in "Mix It Up" Lunch, sharing in conversation starters with new friends. Next up are visions from Coolidge Cafeteria Karaoke/Dance Party. Last, a few hearts from a school-wide classroom kindness activity where students used post-it notes to write a kind statement or an idea for how to show kindness at school, at home, or within our community.
COOLIDGE CULTURAL CONNECTIONS
February Musician of the Month : Black Violin
February is black history month, where we take the time to pay even greater attention to the accomplishments, perspectives, and experiences of Black people. In honor of black history our musician of the month will be Black Violin. Black Violin is a musical duo composed of classically trained violist, Will Baptiste and violinist, Kev Marcus. Both musicians met in Orchestra at a performing arts high school in Florida. They are classically trained musicians that infuse elements of Hip Hop into classical music and their own compositions. Black Violin uses their music to openly challenge stereotypes of classical musicians and classical music They are advocates for educational outreach and founded the Black Violin Foundation Inc. Their music conveys messages of hope, optimism, perseverance and unity through music making. If you care to listen to Black Violin click this spotify link to access a playlist of some of their most notable tunes. Please note that you will need to create a spotify account to play these songs, it is free with some Ads.
