Waukee High School Baseball Coach Inducted into Iowa Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame

The Iowa Baseball Coaches Association (IBCA) proudly welcomed Dave Dirkx into its Hall of Fame, celebrating a career marked by dedication, leadership, and a great impact on the sport of baseball in Iowa. With a legacy spanning over two decades, Dirkx’s induction showcases his commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

Coach Dirkx’s journey in baseball coaching began in 1996. As head coach for 24 years, Dirkx has left a mark on every team he has led, creating a culture of excellence and sportsmanship. Some of Coach Dirkx’s coaching milestones include:

  • Aplington Parkersburg (1998): Dirkx’s coaching career began at Aplington Parkersburg, laying the groundwork for his career ahead.
  • Carlisle (2001-2011): Dirkx guided the team to success, clinching conference titles and state tournament appearances along with a state championship.
  • Waukee (2012-present): Since 2012, Dirkx has been at the helm of the Waukee baseball program, steering the team to extraordinary heights with an impressive record and numerous accolades.

Throughout his coaching career, Coach Dirkx has epitomized excellence, with a remarkable record and earning the respect of players, peers, and fans alike.

  • Career W/L Record: Dirkx’s career win-loss record stands at an impressive 602-271. 
  • Record at Waukee: At Waukee, Dirkx has achieved remarkable success, boasting a record of 330-137 and securing four conference titles.
  • State Tournament Appearances: Dirkx’s teams have made 12 state tournament appearances, showcasing a consistent standard of excellence and competitive spirit.

Coach Dirkx’s impact extends far beyond the wins and losses, as he has served as a mentor and inspiration to countless players and coaches. Under Dirkx’s guidance, 29 players have earned All-State honors, while 23 players have been selected to the Senior All-Star series. Being a mentor in leadership, Nine of Dirkx’s assistant coaches have gone on to become head baseball coaches.

In addition to his coaching, Coach Dirkx has also been a dedicated educator, teaching high school math and empowering students both academically and athletically.
